Wonder Woman is one of the best known, longest lasting, and most controversial characters in the history of comics. William Moulton Marston, an American psychologist and writer believed there was a great deal of unfulfilled potential of the comic book medium, and in return created Wonder Woman, who first appeared in December of 1941. Although Wonder Woman is still a notable character today, her television and film career is practically nonexistent. Only being showcased in one live action series, Wonder Woman’s exposure lies within the pages of comic books and animated cartoons. She has served as an example for her entire gender, but has never struck Hollywood fame like her fellow male superheroes. Why is it that Wonder Woman's career has never made it’s way to the big screen. There are many tragedies to Wonder Woman that have caused her television and film career to be short lived. In an article by Benjamin Svetkey of Entertainment Weekly, Jose Whedon, a pop culture eminence, explains some of the issues with bringing Wonder Woman to theaters, “There are all these problems; the campy tone of the TV show, the corny costume, the dated 1940s backstory, are reasons it's been difficult for Wonder Woman to get a movie. Batman had a similar dilemma when transition from his colorful beginning, but his tragic back story allowed him to appeal to a modern audiences, something Wonder Woman doesn't have. When thinking of the Batman series in comparison to Wonder Woman both are fun loving and light hearted, but Wonder Woman lacks the thrill of fighting crime because the villain is less memorable.
