13th Amendment- Dred Scott Case
Dred Scott was born into slavery and remained a slave throughout his entire life. In the beginning of his life he had a slave owner by the name of Peter Blow. Peter Blow moved his slaves to Huntsville Alabama and this where Scott remained until the year of 1830. Then Scott’s owner Blow gave up his life as a farmer and settled in St. Louis, Missouri. Blow then sold Scott to an Army Surgeon by the name of Dr. John Emerson. After Emerson purchased Scott, Scott was moved to Fort Armstrong, Illinois. At the time, Illinois was considered a free state under the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 and had abolished slavery when it was admitted as a state.
