It is necessary to adapt to the way you communicate with someone, if the person has special needs. For example if English is not their first language, you might need to speak slowly and use simple words or you might need the help of an interpreter. Alternatively, in case of a deaf person you might need to use sign language or you could communicate by writing it down in a letter or email.
We live in multi-cultural society where people come from various walks of life. There are different cultures, different languages and different disorders. In order to accommodate all adults we need to be patient and considerate towards their needs. We need to adapt to the different needs of every individual. Sometimes we might require an interpreter or different tools to aid communication. For some parents written reminders sent home with child could be a good idea while others who may have trouble reading could be approached physically while they come to pick or drop off their children. Some parents or co-workers may simply lack confidence in communicating. They would need support and reassurance that they are valued. It is very important to make the other person feel comfortable so he/she in approaching you.
