For the wedding toast, the speaker committed many major mistakes. He started off well by toasting how his brother has always been there for him, but then the speaker went into a rant of his own troubles in his life. The speaker then went on with the speech by comparing his brother, the groom, to himself. This made the speech sound not genuine and that the speaker has been bitter about his brother throughout his life. The speaker also made the audience uncomfortable because the speech did not fit the occasion of a wedding toast. The toast was meant to honor his brother on his wedding day and not to embarrass him. Not only have that, the speaker also mentioned a story that would create tension between the husband and wife on their wedding day. To improve his toast, the speaker could be more prepare. Before the day of the event, he should practice the speech and write it out or at least an outline for what he will say. The speech will most likely be better if it was written in advance. This is a way to brainstorm to get an idea of what the speech will look like. This will also give time for the writer to edit or make any adjustments before the time of the toast. Because the speech was written in advance, it will sound more thoughtful. Just for safety measures, the speaker can also bring a note card just in case he forget his lines or stray from the original script. The speaker can also present the toast to a close and trusting friend before saying it at the wedding party. This way, the friend can give the speaker pointers and criticisms of what is and what is not appropriate to say. Of
