Through the speech Kelley expresses that child labor should be appeales meaning that young children should be free from the labor system. Kelley convey the audience to her message through evidence of states law, logic, and empathy. The author also uses repetition throughout the speech by mentioning that the children are working when the adults are asleep which appeals the audience emotionally because the scenario relies on empathy. The author organizes the passage in comparing other states in the beginning, towards the middle the author uses empathy by using the voices of others and logic, and at the end the author offer alternative choices for the problem.
In the beginning the author introduces her speech by addressing the children under the labor laws and their occupations. By showing the how young the children are and what conditions they under like mining shows emotional appeal towards the audience because children should not be in under those conditions. Then the author author goes on to mention the increasing number of children problem with child labor system. “Tonight while we sleep,several thousands little girls will be working in textile mill, all the night through” and then goes on saying how gruel their work is for a petty cause. Kelley mentions that another possible way to support the message is by voting. Kelley offers another solution for the child labor system by mentioning the workingmen replacing the currently working children. The author fully expresses that the children should be free. At the ending statement the author emphasizes that this is for the children and not just the children but for the republic meaning that the workingmen should vote for the cause too. In the ending sentence the author expresses that her message that the children should be free from this gruesome labor
