In the novel, A Separate Peace, by John Knowles, the chapter begins with Gene hearing that Finny’s leg was shattered. He tried to stop thinking about everything and thought the best way to do that was to dress in Finny’s clothes. The doctor told Gene that Finny would be walking again but never playing sports. Gene went into the infirmary to visit Finny and see how everything was going. Gene was contemplating whether or not to tell Finny that he had caused the accident but the doctor came in before he could confess to it.
