Innocent people naively think that innocence will last forever. In light of this innocent people make great friends because they act happy and carefree. In A Separate Peace, Leper, Finny, and the Boys at Devon depict this characteristic of innocence during the summer session. However, when the boys realize that Leper went to war, they understand that innocence can be lost. John Knowles’ A Separate Peace portrays that innocence can be corrupted by other people, the outside world, and jealousy.
A Separate Peace illustrates that other people can corrupt someone's innocence. One way that Leper portrays this feature of corruption is when he sends Gene a telegram asking him to come and visit him at his home. Gene has received the telegram from Leper
