Football is a sport that requires strength and power in almost every muscle throughout the body. Both lower body and upper body muscles are involved in activities such as running, jumping, blocking, catching and throwing. In addition, the core muscles have to work continuously to keep the spine stable and perform twisting movements that occur when launching or jumping to catch a ball.

Run and jump

Buttocks, quadriceps and hamstrings provide the force behind many football moves, and they often work together. The buttocks, along with the hamstrings, move the legs. The quadriceps, a collection of four muscles in the front of the thighs, extend to the knees . When sprinting or jumping, these muscles are driving forward. If a lineman requires to block an opponent, buttocks, quadriceps and hamstrings provide the base for him to keep his floor and drive forward.
Legs and shoulders allow him to jump and reach for passes.

The pectoralis major, which is the largest in the chest muscle, is responsible for squeezing the arms together toward the center as one pushes.
