Acting Course Analysis

Acting has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. Furthermore, I decided this past semester to take an acting course to further improve my craft. Throughout this course I learned a lot about acting and it has thought me how to be a better actor. To top of the last day of class the professor put on video called Acting 1-Day 1 with Robert Cohen in which I learned the method acting acronym GOTE which stands Goal, Other, Tactics, and Expectations.

In acronym GOTE the letter g stands for goal. Goal refers to what a character desires and what drives their actions. For example, during the video Professor Cohen had the students do the pledge of allegiance two different times once normally and then a second time with a slight character backstory. When the students did the pledge of allegiance the second time the students identified the desires and emotions of the character and they the students performed the pledge of allegiance with more passion and reasoning to say the pledge. Other refers to people in your minds which refers to the people in the scene or play. For example, during the video Professor Cohen was describing a back story to the students in which the students where told that they lived in a country where they had no voice, and there thugs that took your mother and sister away from you in the middle of the night and other horrible things. Which not only made the backstory more personal, while also encouraging the student to say the pledge of allegiance with much more passion.
