In the United States of America, during 1865-1877 after the Civil war was considered the reconstruction era. This is a time in the United States where the Northerners were trying to reunite the country and help rebuild the south. During this period discrimination and racism was still occuring, but this did not stop African Americans from trying to advance and better their lives. People such as W.E.B Du Bois, Booker T. Washington and may more tried many different things to help African Americans move up in society or just improve their lives.
