The American Dream of success is the target of almost every immigrant to the United States. I appreciate that it was my family’s goal when I came to the United States with my brothers and my mother. Success in America to me would be providing for my family without . Achieving success in this country is why I chose to apply to the University of St. Thomas in spite of family and health issues.
I had contemplated being a Tommie since my freshman year in Careers class, when we researched colleges. I decided to apply to St. Thomas for numerous reasons. My greatest motivation would be the significance of the college I settle on, since I come from an immigrant family. In our family grew to seven kids from the original three and while we struggled to make ends meet with our sizable family it wasn’t too daunting of a task until my mother suffered kidney failure. Growing up, my mother was the reason I loved reading, history, writing, and science as a child and as an adult. She also assisted me in accepting my Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) this year, after years of not being treated. My mother was also the one who pushed my brothers and me strongly to learn as much as we possibly could in this …show more content…
A job became necessary and I worked as much as legally possible. After I got my first job, everything around me seemed fine. At least, in the sense that I was caring for my family, however for a late diagnosis ADHD kid without medication, it was discernible that the house of cards would fall. Unfortunately, my devotion to providing for my family prevented me from helping myself. Eventually, the stress caused me to develop health problems, causing my plummeting school performance to fall further.
