Andrew Jackson’s administration was the dawn of major advancement in America. Despite having a weak education, Jackson began his political career as a fierce young lawyer in Tennessee and expanded his reputation after the War of 1812. His mass appeal to the ordinary people as a war hero won him the 1828 presidential election. Despite this, his administration is seen by many as imperial. The policies enacted during this era expanded suffrage and extended the country, but also put in place the spoils system. Andrew Jackson's actions during his administration contradicted his strict constructionist views because of his opposition to state intrusions on the federal government, and caused sectional divide within a country Jackson proclaimed should
