Before embarking on this unit about ancient Kemet, I knew virtually nothing about it. I knew that Kemet was in Africa and was aware of the pyramids, originally called meru. Now, I have learned a great deal more. For example, I know that the pyramids were not built by Hebrew slaves but instead they were built by skilled laborers, primarily during the flood season. Another interesting thing, I have learned was about the intricate burial practices. I also knew the Nile River, which the indigenous people called Iteru, was the longest river in the world but I did not previously know the very important role it played in the development of Kemetic civilization. Iteru was the basis of the creation of an advanced irrigation system used in agriculture (Doc 3, 2 and 1) and for hieroglyphic and papyrus (Doc 7, 8, 9); the people of Kemet developed an accurate calendar system (Doc 4) which we still use today …show more content…
The common people were buried west while others like the pharaohs were buried in the building sites east of the Iteru. Most of those people, mummified with each of their main organs going into the different Canopic Jars. The Qebehsenuef -falcon headed- represented the west and contained intestines, the Duamutef -jackal headed- for the east contained the stomach, the Hapi -baboon headed- represented the north containing the lungs and the Imsety -human headed- represented the south containing the liver. In summation, ancient Kemites have truly pave the way for a facile lifestyle. They have generated things like the pythagorean theorem, mathematics, geometry, calendars, irrigation systems, hieroglyphs, and a system of communication all oversimplifying our current lives. We ought to thank them and acknowledge them for everything that they have done instead of classifying them as inferior or
