As the United States rapidly changes and develops both political and economic change reshapes American society. Between 1820 starting with James Taylor as President to 1848 with Zachary Taylor as president, multiple political influences such as Andrew Jackson, Henry Clay, and John Quincy Adams influenced society and the United States economically. The struggles between Congress and the presidency as well as women rights have made twenty eight years of successful change in the United States. The beginning of the period 1820-1848, twenty eight years, James Monroe was serving his second term as president. During this time the idea of unity was indeed the “Era of Good Feelings”. This was all good until Andrew Jackson become president. Throughout the following period, 1820-1848, political and economic changes substantially reshaped American society. Politically, women wanted to be equal to men. Domestic Industry suggested that women could work and it gave them an opportunity to have comfort in life and develop their own mind (Doc 5). The Market Revolution allowed women to work in factories, but not much changed for them because they were paid less, and when they were married they had to go back to regular household chores. Economically, the Lowell System allowed women to work in factories, provided they weren’t slaves, so they could maintain their idea of being equal to men (Doc 7). The significance is that women now believed that they were in control of their own lives. The cult of Domesticity further changed the mindset of women because they wanted to get away from men being the head of the house, so now women could work if they wanted, and they could be considered in control, however those positions were not permanent for them in
