In Robert Louis Stevenson’s mystery novella, Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde, archetypes are used to show good and evil. Good and Evil is not a new concept in the world, everyday you see examples of it. In Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde, the book represents a perfect example of Good vs. Evil.
For instance, the use of nature depicts good in the novella. For example, after Carew’s murder, Utterson meets up with Mr.Guest to discuss the murder of Sir Danvers. And as Mr.Guest and Utterson are sitting by the fireplace, “the glow of hot autumn afternoons on hillside vineyards [is] ready to be set free and to disperse the fogs of London(Stevenson 27).” Autumn usually represents preservation, comfort, balance, and protection.
