Arguments Against Animal Testing

Professor Charles R. Magel once said, “‘Ask the experimenters why they experiment on animals, and the answer is: ‘Because the animals are like us.’ Ask the experimenters why it is morally okay to experiment on animals and the answer is: “Because they are not like us’. Animal experimentation rests on a logical contradiction’”. Each year over 100 million animals die in laboratories in the United States (Peta). These deaths alone are just happening in the United States. These innocent animals die because of all kinds of testing and experimentations done on them. Animal cruelty in laboratories is an issue we need to address because animals are suffering, being mistreated and killed. According to ProCon.org they stated, “Animal research has also contributed to major advances in understanding and treating conditions such as breast cancer, brain injury, childhood leukemia, cystic fibrosis, malaria, multiple sclerosis, tuberculosis, and many others.” What this is saying is that with the help of animals testing they are able to find more remedies to these diseases. They are able to experiment on animals instead of on humans so humans won’t get hurt. Instead animals are the ones that are getting hurt because they are going through so much and suffering along the way. Another example would be, “Animals do not have the cognitive ability or moral judgement that humans do because of this they have been treated differently than humans by nearly every culture throughout recorded history”. This is saying that because animals don’t have rights, we have the authority to do what we want with them. Nevertheless, animal testing is hurting the animals which is causing them so have problems and sometimes even causes their deaths. According to Peta they stated, “Each year, more than 100 million animals-including mice rats, frogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds-are killed in
