Two Governing Documents
Jessica Vandeventer The United States of America has had two governing documents to guide the nation into the future. The first document was the Articles of Confederation, and this one failed to keep the States together. The second document was The Constitution of the United States, and this document is still being used in the United States today. The Articles of Confederation and the Constitution documents have very different parts and the founding fathers discovered failures in the Articles of Confederation and made changes in the Constitution, to form a new better governing document. The Articles of Confederation was the first governing document of the United States and it had many parts that are not in the Constitution

This new constitution included parts of the of the Articles of Confederation, but added lots to help fix the problems from the Articles of Confederation. One way they wanted to fix the Articles of Confederation was to dived the governing power into three branches. The writers of the constitution were very careful when introducing the executive branch. The people and the writers were really apposed with the idea of a monarch, which is what the executive branch looked like. The writers of the Constitution gave the executive powers to the President of the United States and the vice-president, and they were given a four year term.4 The United States would either re-elect a president or elect a new president to the office. The writers in state in Article two, section 4 that “The President, Vice-President, and all the civil officers of the United States shall be removed form office on Impeachment.”5 The writers wanted to be able to remove a person from the office for committing treason or other high crimes. The Constitution was able to make the executive office look less like a monarch to get the states to ratified
