Marissa, a 7 year old, will be seen every 3 months for a follow up. She will be seen sooner if necessary. The purpose of her visits entails asthma control and medication management. First, the FNP will need to follow up with the allergist specialist. By this time, it is thought that her allergens have been identified. FNPs need to reinforce teaching regarding allergens. According to Gardner et al. (2015), there needs to use a standardized curriculum for teaching about asthma management which can be conducted by a non-physician health care professional. Secondly, during the exam the patient needs to be reevaluated regarding the FEV1. The expectation would be to have a score of at least 80%. According to Lambert et al. With this, Marissa will be given a spirometry test to determine her reading. Her reading from the previous visits will be compared to the current visit. It should be better to indicate improvement as Marissa was experiencing an asthma exacerbation. Thirdly, in terms of her asthma control, Marissa was started on ICS which needs to be reviewed for effectiveness. Given that she is improving, she should continue with the prescribed dose. For uncontrolled symptoms, the dose will need to be adjusted, accordingly. The two medications identified were beclomethasone HFA and fluticasone HFA.
