There is an increasingly concerning epidemic that is surging throughout Australia and the globe. Mental illnesses in young people. Emotions are something that we experience in our everyday lives, but these poor unfortunate 14 & 15 year olds are overwhelmed with feelings of sadness & guilt, accompanied by even the thought of taking their own lives. Why should youth have to go through this torture? We can help. And this can only be done with the help of funding from the government, something we are clearly lacking in Australia. This is why I propose help for teenagers suffering from mental illnesses.

Visualize if you will, a child. An innocent child, no older than ten or eleven, getting bullied. ‘Retard’, ‘idiot’, ‘pussy’, foul words easily being thrown at them. No longer an innocent child, now a teenager, it continues. They want it stop. What was once a simple razor to you becomes relief for them... the saddest fact is that this is just one example of how bullying and other causes of mental health are effecting youth.

One in seven young Australians experience a mental health condition. One in thirty-five young Australians will experience a depressive disorder. The amount of deaths by suicide is the highest it’s been in ten years. Must I keep stating facts for you to understand that this is a serious issue? In reality, this is a lot more common then thought to be. One, two, even more people in this room might be a victim of this. Unless action is taken, these statistics will worsen.
