My worst administrative experience is with the director of my current job. Unfortunately, she’s not fair; she’s controlling, intimidating and hard to speak to. She picks and chooses who she wants for certain positions based on who she likes or feels comfortable with. Before anything is done, she has to give her approval even when it comes to covering a call out. Although she has an open door policy, many employees dread talking to her because the end result is always in her favor or she will try to justify what she know is not right or fair. For example, a position became available and a co-worker applied for it, she had been employed there for years, was well liked by everyone and well qualified for the job , but the job was given to a friend of the director who we later found out wasn’t qualified so the co-worker resigned. …show more content…
According to the text, authoritarian leaders “set goals and policies, dictate the activities of members, and develop major plans” (Zastrow, 2015, p. 88), and that’s exactly how the director over the facility I work for operates; however, many times the goals and policies set are not in the best interest of the employees. Sadly, she has to have control over everything not allowing others to fully take on their job responsibilities. The morale in the workplace is down and she fails to motivate her staff, and as a result many employees resign.
