Imagine it's one of the worst flu seasons to date. You have two vulnerable children, and they're in danger of catching the virus. There is an outlaw on childhood vaccination, because of the public's decision to not vaccinate their kids. This decision has been driven for years, because of the theories that vaccinations spark Autism Spectrum Disorder in select kids. This is the point society will reach if we continue to question the vaccines' undeniable ability to cure diseases. Due to lack of evidence, theories like these should never be put into question. Although not all vaccines are one hundred percent effective, they are not harmful, and should be treated as such.
In the public health world, vaccines are one of the greatest success stories. Through vaccines, we have dissolved smallpox and nearly annihilated the polio virus. The number of fatalities due to preventable diseases such as measles and whooping cough is at an ultimate all-time low. Thimerosal is an organic mercury compound used as a preservative in multi-dose vials. It is added to vials of vaccines to prevent further growth of germs, such as bacteria and fungi. As stated by the research of Geier, Hooker, Kern, King, Sykes, the human body is equipped to pass thimerosal quickly (Geier, Hooker, Kern, King, Sykes, 2013).
