Love can be the source of many people's happiness, but it may also end up as the grave of others. The word love exists all around the world and is interpreted in thousands of ways. Depending on the way a person views love, it can be a monster in disguise. In William Shakespeare’s play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, two teenagers, blinded by love, make foolish decisions and end up losing their lives because of their deadly love. Shakespeare uses the poor choices of Romeo, Juliet’s Nurse, and Friar Laurence to show how hasty decisions and selfishness can lead to disastrous consequences.
Romeo shows how superficial his love really is when he completely forgets about the “love of his life”, Rosaline, after meeting Juliet. For example, Friar Laurence asks Romeo if he spent the night with Rosaline and Romeo responds with, ‘“With Rosaline, my ghostly father? No. I have

For instance, at first the Friar is cautious to marry them, but in the end he says, ‘“In one respect I’ll thy assistant be; / For this alliance may so happy prove / To turn your household’ rancor to pure love”’ (2.3.98-00). Friar Laurence is the one who set off the chain of events leading up to Romeo and Juliet’s death by agreeing to marry the couple. He knew that marrying the two would be a mistake, but did it anyway because he thought it would bring the feuding families together. Similarly, once the bodies of Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence announces,’“I will be brief, for my short date of breath / Is not so long as is a tedious tale”’ (5.3.252-54). Friar Laurence only came clean about the entire situation when it is convenient for him and during all the other available times that he could have. The situation is made worse because no one, especially Friar Laurence, came forward and told the truth about everything.
