Imagine traveling to Australia on a vacation, expecting to have fun while shopping in the local area, eating fine cuisine, and enjoying a new cultural experience. However, when that experience is ruined by countless bug bites that swell and boil to the size of a quarter, leaving you confined to a hospital emergency room and unable to explore the country, you would probably feel pretty angry and unjust. One such problem is bed bugs, a public health problem in the world that has been around since the 1950s, but is currently making a resurgence in all parts of the world (Bandyopadhyay, 2015). In fact, in the past 10 years, The United States National Pest Management Association (NPMA) has received a greater amount of calls due to this problem, jumping from a rate of 11% to even 99% (Baumblatt, 2014). Not only does it create anxiety and ruin tourist experiences, bed bugs infestation can cause multiple health problems that will ultimately lead to business loss, hospital visits, and great dissatisfaction with the general health of the public.
