Stephen King Why We Crave Horror Movies

The Conjuring. This is a movie that is based on a true story and everyone was scared to watch it. Some would even use holy water before entering the theatre and pray to God that nothing spiritual followed them home, but why would they continue to go watch this movie if they were worried about anything demonic following them home and dragging them off their beds? Stephen King says in his essay “Why we crave horror movies” is we do this because we want to feel like a child again and relieve our suppressed emotions so watching horror can release many emotions like fear and adrenaline which makes people want to return and feel these emotions again. King is right about us being mentally ill because we have ridiculous fears or we return to watch scary movies even though it scares the life out of us. “I think we’re all mentally ill; those of us outside just hide it a little bit better - and maybe not all that much better, after all” I agree with this statement because we as humans are scared of the most absurd things, for example bugs, the dark, tight places, etc. and while we are scared of these things they cannot hurt or kill us people are still scared of them (King,1).
