I appreciate you reading my letter. I am writing to hopefully convince you to make Columbus day a federal holiday. To me the meaning of Columbus day recognizes the achievements of the Renaissance explorer, Christopher Columbus. Columbus day should celebrate the beginning of cultural exchange between Europe and America. Columbus day should focus on the beginning of Age Exploration which to me shaped history as we know it. Many people believe that Christopher Columbus is a bad guy, but without Columbus today’s modern institutions wouldn’t exist. Columbus and his crew’s discovery led to several advances and a better life for people on the long run. Not to mention Christopher Columbus started an expedition to help us move here to the land we now call home.Even though did some bad stuff like supporting slave trade, Columbus deserves some credit. …show more content…
