At the beginning of the book they talk about the events following up to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln like it describes the Ford’s Theatre, the weapons that Booth and his accomplishes used, describes the last moments of Lincolns and Booths living. It shows how he tried to run away from Washington to Virginia which was a confederate state, but he got sold out by the family which locked him in their tobacco shed. It shows how the government was really not prepared for anything like this to happen. It also shows how when everyone went together and trying to find Booth and his partners that tried to get rid of the president,Vice president Johnson, and the Secretary of State Seward.

His strengths were that he had some good knowlegde about this plan and he was kinda apart of the kidnaping plan that failed. He was a boatman and he could help them escape after they tried their plan. Mary Surratt she lived in the American boarderhouse and she was a big part of Booth’s plan. She was a confederate secret agent and Booth really thought a good deal about what she did for the confederate states. Her strengths were that she lived in the union area and could get him the stuff he wanted, she gave him guns or left them at tavern in Surrattsville, Maryland which Booth and David Herold picked up later. Booth said in the book that he was surprised that no one before him did not try to kill Abraham Lincoln. He said that he could of made an appointment with him and killed him at his desk but he then had no chance to have a getaway. This changed the government a whole bunch now all the presidents are kept protected by the secret services and tries to keep everyone safe. It changed how people were checked before they went anywhere close to the important people of America. It shows that people went and looked for him for twelve days and tried their bests to find them.
