Did you know that element bromine was first the first sedative in medicine? A sedative is a drug used to promote sleep or calmness. Bromine was discovered in 1826 by two different scientists, and one scientist was still in school! It is essentially a toxic red liquid found near the earth’s crust, and has an awful stench. The name Boron even came from the word “bromos” in french meaning stench. It isn’t naturally an element on Earth, and evaporates under normal conditions.
