Stuart Tutoring will offer tutoring services primarily for high school students, but also for select middle school students, in a wide range of academic subject. Kathy Stuart is the sole proprietor, but over the next two years, she plans to add staff and incorporate as an LLC. Stuart began tutoring when she was an education major at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. As class sizes in the district where she teaches began to increase and teaching jobs became difficult to find, she decided to increase her income by tutoring students after school and on weekends. She expects to expand her services by offering tutoring over the summer months to keep students' minds engaged in the learning process.
Kathy Stuart is certified to teach kindergarten through eighth grade in an inclusive classroom (all subjects are taught) and recently completed her M.Ed. She also received certification to teach English and social studies at the high school level. She has 12 years of experience teaching upper elementary school, four years teaching high school, and two years teaching community college classes. Stuart has been tutoring on an informal basis since she was in high school and volunteered her time as
a member of National Honor Society to tutor fellow students in all subjects. She has also volunteered as a literacy instructor at a local church, teaching adults to read, and at the Tutoring Tree, working with elementary students. Stuart has created a home-based business, but wants to expand her services to include all subjects. To that end, she plans to add teaching colleagues in math and science to be able to offer fullservice tutoring to students.
Stuart Tutoring will help all students succeed academically by making connections between the subject(s) being studied and each student's interests and academic goals.
