If the blockage is critical, then the doctor can recommend removing the blockage from the artery. Carotid endarterectomy, is the treatment for severe carotid artery disease. If the blockage is severe, then carotid angioplasty and stenting is the option. If there are other health conditions, then surgery might be an unsafe procedure to go through.
