Over the past three decades, the City of Chandler has experienced significant growth. Between 1990 and 2000, Chandler was the seventh fastest growing city of those with a population more than 100,000 in the United States, jumping from 89,868 to 175,581. Additionally, since 2000, there has been a 42.4 percent increase in the population and there are currently an estimated 103,005 housing units in Chandler. The city is landlocked and is now reaching build-out with only 5 percent of Chandler’s land undeveloped and uncommitted for development, of which 79 percent is planned for non-residential development. This means as a City, we must shift our focus from growth and development to preservation and maintenance. And while this rapid growth
