What would you do with your life if you knew you weren't going to live very long? Most may say they would make the most of every day like Freak in Rodman Philbrick’s novel, Freak The Mighty. Max, on the other hand, was always wishing people got to know him for who he was instead of assuming he was like his dad because just because he looked like him.Throughout Max’s life he has been called names and made fun of for his past and his appearance.With a dad in jail and his mother dead, Max didn't do very well in school. Freak is a brilliant boy with a heart bigger than his body as he suffers from Morquio Syndrome. With Freak’s brain and Max’s legs, however, they become Freak the Mighty riding high above the world. One example of this was when on page 44 Freak says, “‘Get outta bed you lazy beast there are fairmadens to save, dragons to slay.’” This clearly proves the theme because Freak doesn't want to waste a minute, is always eager for adventure and urges max to go on quests with him due to the fact that he knows he doesn't have very long. As Freak himself once said “‘life is dangerous’”(page 53) When Freak says this I think he is trying to say to Max that life is a privilege and you shouldn't waste it but instead should make the most of every day, which clearly shows the theme. Overall this was a very important theme in Rodman Philbrick's Freak the Mighty. The following evidence has proven that looks can be deceiving as well as living life to the fullest are both conspicuous and significant themes in Rodman Philbrick’s Freak the Mighty. The two themes that I chose were very important lessons for the reader to understand. For example if you judge someone by their looks you could be missing out on getting to know them and maybe even becoming great friends. Same goes for living life to the fullest because, everyone should take advantage of life and live every day to the fullest. Overall these themes were very significant life
