What did John Proctor have to do with the beginning of the Salem Witch Trials? Some say that the Salem Witch Trials all began with, John Proctor. If John had never gotten to know Abigail Williams in an intimate way, Abigail probably would have never gone into the woods with Tituba and the other girls, to cast what they thought would be “harmless spells.” If no one was in the woods, then no one would have been caught “dancing,” thus no one would have had to accuse anyone of witchcraft to save their own butts. John’s love affair with Abigail began when his wife, Elizabeth, was sick after giving birth to their child. At the time of her sickness, Elizabeth was a very cold and unloving person towards her husband. Because Elizabeth was this way, John began to lust after the other woman in his household, which is what lead to his intimacy with Abigail Williams. Abigail had confessed her love for John and how much she wanted to be with him. When she found out that John did not feel the same way, she was infuriated. Some say that the Salem Witch Trials all began with, John Proctor. But who is to say that John Proctor could or could not have influenced the beginning of the Salem Witch Trials? Afterall, no one really knows if the Salem Witch Trials could have been prevented or not. Everything that happened, was supposed to happen. Who knows, maybe someone who was hanged was actually a witch. Maybe someone who was hanged would later plan world domination, but they were killed before they ever got the chance. What if someone knew the cure to cancer, but they were also killed before they got the chance. In the end there is just no telling what might have happened if there were no Salem Witch
