5/16/14 "Christian Service Paper" Mahatma Gandhi said "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” I believe this quote really dignifies what it means to do service. Over the course of three years at Salesianum I have always done the same thing to achieve my 25 hours of service. I go to my grade school Saint Edmonds Academy and help in the after care program. I work with the younger kids there and help them do homework, play sports, and share good experiences with them. Working with younger kids has definitely taught me a lot about different things in life. Everyday one of the kids there has some type of problem, wether it be a homework question, or a problem with another student. With this I have learned how to problem solve and think of a good solution when someone needs advice. One of my best times working in the after care program was when a student had a math problem he could not understand. He asked for my help and I explained how to do those types of problems. A couple days later he came in and showed me his test and the grade was a 100. Seeing that I helped this student and he achieved something good from the help of me made me feel great. …show more content…
A lot of the students there play basketball in the gym when they are not doing homework. I will usually go in the gym and play with them, and I try and teach them a little thing or two. There was always eight or ten kids that always played basketball on the same hoop every single day. Occasionally I would go over and fill in for someone missing. It was so cool what they were doing, they had created their own league were they had a record of wins and loses for each team.
