Show Analysis

This episode of the popular Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is titled “Home is Where the Heart Attack Is.” This episode is about Will Smith’s Uncle Phil, who ends up having a heart-attack due to his unhealthy eating habits and lack of exercise. The whole family, Vivian (Phillip’s wife), Will, Hilary (Phillip’s daughter), Ashley (Phillip’s daughter), Geoffrey (butler), all visit Uncle Phillip in the hospital, leaving only Carlton (Phillip’s son) to yet to see him. Carlton is struggling to find the courage to go see his father in such rough condition and Will takes initiative and makes Carlton realize he needs to go by showing how lucky he is to even have a father, being that Will’s father left without a single word/goodbye. The show’s target audience is aimed at teenagers being that the show is about a young-black teenager who is going to live with his extended family in Bel-Air. Another clear argument to be made that the show is targeted towards teenagers is that the show’s theme song/opening is a music video which is a rap song that grew with popularity along with the show. The show obviously would appeal more to blacks being that it is about a black family, though it’s comedy and screenplay allowed it to pass any barriers and reach a much wider audience. The show now is a little aged, and is aired on the Nick@Night show, which I feel is aimed at new parents whose kids watch the channel during the day and gets left on for them to pick up once the kids go to bed. The show is about as old as the newer generation of parents which makes them want to watch their old shows.

Commercial Analysis

Time Warner Commercial Ad – 15 seconds The advertiser is Time Warner cable and they are advertising their cable packages. In this particular ad, a woman is shopping, and gets caught in a long line, and is unexpectedly missing her favorite TV shows. With Time Warner she is able to pick up and catch up with all her shows with the ON Demand feature of their cable products.
It uses the appeal of the need to dominate. With this feature you can dominate your shows, and decide what shows you want to watch as well as when you want to watch them. The advertisement featured a woman grocery shopping, which leads me to believe that the target audience for this commercial, are adults, particularly
