There are many jobs that a Health Information Technician can do. The one that really interests me is the Coding Professional. This paper will go over the responsibilities, skills and why taking Management of Health Information services class will be useful in persuing that career. A coding professional would be the right job for me because I enjoy coding. It is something that I am really good at and enjoy doing. The coding professional is responsible for conducting ongoing record audits to verify coding MS-DRG accuracy, performing educational sessions for coding specialist’s, and physicians, they effectively use abstracting databases as well as internal and external audit results. The coding professional has many job responsibilities. They also have to act as a liason for electronic physician query application and timely report coding and MS-DRG accuracy based on the audit results that they received. This course will help me prepare to be in management and help me know what to do and give me the knowledge that I need to be successful as any type of management in the healthcare field. The thing that drew me to this career was that it is solely about Coding and not both billing and coding. I absolutely loved coding and going through the books and encoders to try to figure out the correct code. I feel that Medical Coders are just as important a nurse, receptionist, or phone operator. They are the ones that go through and code all of the patient appointment information. Pursing this career would make me feel as though I am just as important as the nurses, medical assistants, billing staff and
