Humans have slowly started devolving over time, we continue to become more independent and careless as time goes on. Are we ready to start living life sitting in a chair all day eating through a straw? Wall-E and Modern times show us that it could be very real for us if we don't do something to stop it. Throughout WALL-E there is a common theme of people being detached from reality. From the moment WALL-E boarded the ship we could see how it seemed people followed a routine of sleeping, waking, eating, all while sitting in the same place. We could easily notice that sitting in these chairs seemed to put people in a trance of nothingness, unaware of their surroundings. The main idea of the entire film. The plant represents freedom, it was a key to giving a purpose of living back to humanity. Throughout WALL-E the main goal of WAll-E Eve and the captain was to bring the plant to its pedestal, commencing the course back to earth. If they hadn't managed to get the plant to the pedestal the passengers of the Axiom will have remained captive, stuck on the ship with no purpose in life. The technology on the axiom blinded the passengers from reality, they didn’t think about the idea of going home to earth until it was nearly a reality. In the climax of the film we see everyone working together to bring the plant to eve, after falling out of their chairs, the passengers realized they wanted the freedom. Reaching the ground was incredible thing for them. The human race had not touched the ground for some 700 years, and they had never thought of it being held captive by the technology on board the axiom. Reaching the ground you could see the excitement in the captain as he told everybody how great it was going to be, pulled away from the technology, you could see the passengers get excited the more and more the captain talked.
