Compare/Contrast Essay There are many people that often don’t realize that there are different types of farming here in Iowa. The biggest two types of farming are crop farming and cattle farming. In a farmer’s eyes one might be better than the other, but cattle farming and crop farming are both the same and different in so many ways. Crop farming and cattle farming are both the same in a lot of different ways. Both types of farming plant crops, mostly beans and corn here in Iowa. Therefore, both of these ways of farming have a cash crop, which is harvesting the corn or the beans and taking them to the market or station to sell them. Both crop farming and cattle farming have machinery also. Both farmers need the tractors, implements, and the combines to operate a farm. They both have to work on their machinery that will eventually break down. In both crop farming and cattle farming when the farmer is in the field with a tractor and it breaks down the farmer is going to have to call a mechanic. Calling a mechanic to come out into the field to work on a piece of machinery can get very expensive. There are endless expenses in both types of farming, nothing ever goes smooth. All the similarities of crop farming and cattle farming also come with a lot of differences. One major difference between them is cattle farming has cattle and crop farming just has crops. With having cattle, a farmer has way more chores to do. He has to go out in the dead of winter when its below zero out and feed them.
