The type of conflict idea I dealt with was another classmate at school over being unreliable. I’m going to discuss communication and the goals in this conflict. Back in high school we had a nursery school in it, if you took family studies you had to work in it. The class was divided into groups and each group had either three or four people in it. The week before a group was supposed to take their turn two out of three people said they would be on a schools trip to England. The teacher told them to plan out their activities they would have done, prepare there materials and then she asked other students to work for them. I volunteered to work in the nursery. The following Monday I came to class to set up the activities for Tuesday’s nursery school. When I looked I found out that there was nothing prepared. If there are no good activities the children will get bored and start to act out. My goal was to prevent that. Their goals were to not have any work to do. They were using face saving tactics. They resisting intimidation by standing up and saying that they didn’t know even though they were in the wrong. I also refused to step back because it upset and frustrated me thinking they were completely wrong. After the conflict ended I then became aware of other goals that we had. I was never asked to take on the roles of planning their activities or preparing them but I did anyways. I took on the responsibility of taking over to make myself look good to the teachers, I would show them I was a hard worker and dedicated to making sure the children had proper activities. I showed collaborative goals, my short term goal was looking good in that moment for the teachers but my long term goal was to be able to reference how I handled this conflict in the future when we had our interviews for the Human Ecology scholarship.
