WALNUT CREEK TWP. — A Sugarcreek man was injured when the horse-drawn buggy he was operating was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of state Route 39 and County Road 114 on Dec. 2 at 11:08 p.m.
John L. Erb, 66, Township Road 162, was transported from the scene by an East Holmes Fire & EMS Co. emergency squad to Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg.
According to the Holmes County Sheriff's Office, Erb was heading southeast on state Route 39 when his buggy was struck by a pickup truck, driven by James E. Howland, 52, Perkins Street, Millersburg, which was northeastbound on County Road 114, attempting a left turn onto state Route 39.
The collision caused Erb to be ejected from the buggy, according to the crash report.
Howland told investigators the buggy's lights were turned on only after he started his turn; however, Erb and a witness indicated the buggy's lights were on the whole time before the crash, according to the crash report.

Howland was cited for failing to yield from a stop sign, according to the report.

MECHANIC TWP. — A West Lafayette man and two of his four passengers were injured when the van they were in crashed into a guardrail along County Road 407, west of Township Road 122, on Dec. 3 at 2:50 p.m.
Roger Dale Ashley, 66, North Kirk Street, and his passengers Roy Keim, 58, County Road 75, Brinkhaven, and Levi Miller, 49, County Road 452, Brinkhaven, were transported by Holmes Fire District No. 1 and Killbuck Volunteer Fire Department emergency squad to Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg.
Two other passengers were not injured in the crash.
According to the Holmes County Sheriff's Office, Ashley was westbound on County Road 407 when he drove off the right side of the road, lost control of the vehicle he was driving and hit a guardrail.
