Some of the traits that make a leader are dominance, confidence, and being bold. Although these are just some traits that make a leader these are not all the traits to make a great leader. Leadership also takes maturity, empathy, and logical. There are many characters that exhibit leadership in either a negative or positive way. The first character is Captain Robert E. Lee who he leads the crew and eventually becomes the mayor. He makes choices he believes will be the best for the community and tell them things when he thinks is the best timing. There is also Colonel Reese Gilbert who leads his own men and puts them in their place. He takes lead on a boid hunt and he bullied his way to make people listen while he took charge behind Lee’s back. There is also the youth that exhibits leadership. For military purposes the stern leadership skills are important but for a community, it is not. Reese is a person that follows orders and he does this when the ship is about to take off and Lee asks him to get off, ““Colonel Reese,” Lee says calmly “please take your men off the ship within four minutes. That’s an order.” “I’ve already got my orders.””(Page 85). This can either be interpreted as stubborn, stupid, or bold depending on the person, however, this way is not a way to make people like you. Since people didn’t like him for the way he took control and bullied this is how Reese was lead to his death. Reese died by a boid which Carlos could have killed but chose not to do so “Yet few in Liberty felt much remorse over his death. Reese had been a bully; everyone knew that. He had badgered the others into taking the trip, then turned coward when he has to walk the talk” (page 258). Leadership is leading people, but being a good leader is not being a coward or a
