Agency History
The history of the 2-1-1/Crisis Center at Pathways of Licking County began in 1970 (Pathways of Central Ohio, "About Pathways ", 2012). Back then, the Crisis Center was the first service organized and operated by the Newark Drug Forum (Pathways of Central Ohio, "About Pathways ", 2012). For the next two years, the hotline and walk-in center were staffed entirely by volunteers (Pathways of Central Ohio, "About Pathways ", 2012). At that time the Crisis Center was located in the basement of an old building at 112-114 Union St., which was provided rent-free (Pathways of Central Ohio, "About Pathways ", 2012).

Each of these organizations set goals and objectives that the 2-1-1/Crisis Hotline & Information and Referral department of Pathways of Central Ohio must meet in order to continue to receive funding (W. Zang, personal communication, October 8th, 2014). These goals and objectives are related to call volume, suicidal call plans of action, giving follow-up calls on suicidal clients, beginning and end stress levels of callers, number of referrals given out and having a low percentage of dropped call …show more content…
The major sources of funding for Pathways of Central Ohio are The Mental Health and Recovery Board of Licking and Knox County, United Way of Licking County and United Way of Knox County (W. Zang, personal communication, October 8th, 2014). Other sources of funding from Licking County include, Licking County Foundation, City of Newark, Licking County Department of Job & Family Services, Energy Cooperative Operation Round up Foundation and Home Depot (W. Zang, personal communication, October 8th, 2014). In Knox County, the crisis center hotline is funded by the Community Mental Health & Recovery Board of Licking and Knox Counties, United Way of Knox County, Knox County Commissioners, City of Mount Vernon and the Community Foundation of Mount Vernon & Knox County (W.
