As a first year professional school counselor, I plan to build relationships that are trusting. For me, it means that when I begin to interact closely with students I will be compassionate about their backgrounds and where they come from by learning more about them, by becoming more culturally aware. I want my students to know that I can relate to any challenges that they are facing and will be willing to go above and beyond to help them be successful.
The need for cultural competency in an institution is imperative to the achievement and opportunity for all students. As a leader and advocate, I want to close the gaps between students groups in order to provide equality among the whole. I believe students from different culture bring different
