Culture is defined as the symbols, language, beliefs, values, and artifacts that are part of any society. These include rituals, symbols, norms, and many others aspects. There are different cultures everywhere you look. It can be cultures in two different parts of a state, in two different countries, or in two different continents. In my culture our Symbols and gestures include our language, which is English. There are many hundreds of different languages spoken in the world today though. In fact, English is only spoken by about 375 million people in the world. It is the 3rd most spoken language, after Chinese and Spanish. That only makes up 5 percent of the population!
Our gestures include shaking hands, which is a form of saying hi to one another. In other part of the world however, people kiss on the cheek or bow to one another as a way of saying hello. If you were to shake someone’s hand in china, they would have no clue what you were trying to do! In Australia, a thumbs up is like the extending the finger the middle finger in the United States! In Bulgaria, shaking your head up and down means no and shaking your head side to side means yes!
