The character of Curley is interpreted as an aggressive, argumentative, small man who is always looking for a fight. This is known through Candy’s gossiping, and the fight scene with Lennie, although he is a small man, he instantly sought for the biggest man in the room: “What the hell you laughin’ at? … ya big bastard”. This suggests that he may be insecure of his stature and looking for ways to redeem himself, from his perspective.
Steinbeck illustrates Curley as being controlling over his wife, and quite uncaring. He does not show much interest towards her, and even when she has been killed, he does not stay with her, instead goes looking for “revenge”.
