The French Revolution, 1789, was an attempt to form a new government in France. According to the text, “It was a revolution that did not follow a simple path. Around the time period of 1793, the punishment for crimes was to be guillotined. The guillotine was a machine with a very heavy blade sliding vertically in grooves, it was used for beheading people. According to document F, “historians estimate that 16,000 people or guillotined during the reign of terror.” 16,000 is a huge number of deaths. Many innocent people were beheaded for things they didn't do, or even very little actions which don't deserve the punishment of death. My third thesis statement is why some French peasants oppose the revolutionary government. Peasants had fixed taxes and a safe environment under the Monarchy so if the revolution were to happen, they would lose everything they had including their lives. According to Document C, “historians estimate that more than 80,000 French people on both sides died and the Vendée and 1793.” Many of the 80,000 people who died on both sides of the revolution were peasants who died for no reason. The Reign of Terror was not justified because too many innocent people died when the main purpose was to lay the foundations of democracy among us, to to consolidate it, and to arrive at the peaceful reign of constitutional
