Many people attended religious revivals in the early 1800s. Charles Grandison Finney led the revivals, or meetings designed to reawaken religious feelings. The meetings were personal, public, and emotional. They were held throughout the Burned-Over District in the 1820s and 1830s. This religious movement was called the Second Great Awakening.
