Dia de Los Muertos is a Mexican holiday celebrated mainly in the central and south regions by people of Mexican ancestry. Dia de Los Muertos translates to Day of The Dead in English. The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey. People party all day with lots food and even dressing up as hundreds of different characters. A main part of the holiday is making ofrendas for the dead. Ofrendas are altars that honor the dead and it is believed that the dead travel to these altars and have a party with their family. Ofrendas contain many candles, picture of the deceased person, their favorite things or food, and marigolds.
