My paper will be on Diversity and Discrimination by giving detailed description and how it applies in today’s modern business world and how I can apply it to my life. (Josh Greenberg, 2004) “Workplace diversity refers to the variety of differences between people in an organization” and according to (business dictionary) “discrimination is the bias or prejudice resulting in denial of opportunity, or unfair treatment regarding selection, promotion or transfer. These two topics are always trending in the business world”. It is impossible for one to not see one of these in the workplace. In a perfect world one would assume that everyone would be treated the same when applying for a job. Diversity and discrimination isn’t just about race and sex it also includes age, gender and religion as well. What one must do is to sit and analyze the bigger picture. A workplace where diversity and discrimination is taken seriously and valuing every aspect of it creates a work environment that respects individuals by boosting the potential of all employees feel welcomed.

I learned that there are many advantages and disadvantages when it comes to diversity in the workplace. In today’s world, most people see diversity as a good thing because it gives the business the chance to explore different things outside of what they normally accustomed to. One of the advantages I learned in this course about diversity is that it can strengthen a company’s relationship with specific customers by communication. I personally have used diversity in my business before and even up until today I keep my business very diverse. Diversity in the workplace is important because it benefits your business in many ways. It draws in customers of all kind instead of just one specific race. Take my business for example, I have a seafood shop in Jacksonville Florida, started it in 2006 and when I first started out I didn’t have much experience but as time went on I grew into the business and became more recognized with it. After learning about diversity in this course I plan on taking advantage of it and using it in my business in the near future thoroughly. I made the mistake of having the same kind of race in my business when I first started out and it started a lot of conflicts. I plan on changing that in my business in the near future. I plan on providing diversity training in my business in the near future. The reason behind this is to let all employees know that the hiring decisions are based on finding the best candidate for that position. (Sarah T., 2013) “Diversity is not being encouraged throughout America; in fact some cultures would rather have contact only within that family or race, or even that religion”.

Discrimination In The Workplace
As we all know discrimination in the workplace is a concern in the business world today. What one must know that discrimination can come in many forms and affect anyone within a business. (Sherrie Scott, 2015) The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission indicates that it is “illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person’s race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age or disability.” What I learned from this course when it comes to discrimination is that it can’t be taken lightly. This is a major matter when one is being discriminated because one can get in major trouble if being seeing by a supervisor or manager doing such act. There are many different types of discrimination such as age, disability, harassment, race, color, religion and sex. One of many ways I can deal with discrimination as a manager where it doesn’t happen on my watch is by establishing a clear harassment policy, setting up clear procedures and training my employees the importance of discrimination and
