As Educational practitioners, the theories most leaders are utilizing are considered egocentric and primitive. Today, transformative leaders are challenged with democracy, reflective judgment and collaboration. In the local Texas school system; there are a majority of Educational leaders that have created their own ego-centered theories based upon their personal beliefs. In the Texas public school, system, counselors do not counsel with students unless a crisis has occurred. Counselors in Texas are known for preparing schedules and assuming a leadership role when directed by Administration. The local school system does not provide trainings for counselors to assume temporary appointed administrative roles. There have been cases when an Administrator has temporarily left and appointed the counselor as the building principal for the day. There is no research indicating such impulsive decisions are considered research based. According to the interview, Donaldson says, “Educational Leaders should build their theories based upon rigorous research.” Leaders in general should carefully make decisions that are effective and based on well constructive consideration. He also mentions, “By engaging in action research and gaining the knowledge, skills and sensitivities it requires, leaders are prepared to act as real change agents with others in their own organization.” There are some organizations that does not promote democracy and critical reflectiveness; as leaders. In some cases we have Leaders that are not exercising democracy. Today there are, many leaders working under the regulations of not wanting to transform into the twenty-first century leader. There are leaders that have adopted primitive ways and refuse to make positive transitions.
As practicing educational leaders, a transformative leader should exercise reflective judgments based upon careful deliberation and judicious evaluations. In careful observation; again, leaders base decisions on impulse. There is no group collaborative decision made. An effective leader is an individual who’s competent and critically makes good judgments. Challenges leaders are struggling with are transformation. Society is looking for a leader who’s flexible and able to work with others. Authoritarian positions are no longer welcome as a means of leadership. Course rooms, traditional classrooms and meetings are no longer being managed by twentieth century leadership techniques. Today, leaders are transforming others to become…
