The effect that drug addiction has on the course of mental disorder is badly understood. Some individuals use drug abuse as self-medication. Following this hypothesis addiction should be considered as a serious problem of a mental illness. Even the clinical verification shows that some disorders like mood disorders, schizophrenia and posttraumatic stress disorder are more related with drug addiction (Giuseppe Barbaro, 2007). Another concealed matter is the correlation between personality disorders and drug addiction. The most recent researches show that some personalities and more often some personality disorders like unsociable, border-line, avoidant and paranoid personality disorders may be related with drug addiction (Giuseppe Barbaro, 2007).
